Starry Tups Head for Builth
The Cheshire Texel breeder whose ram set the trade alight at Lanark last month by selling for a record 130,000 guineas will be bringing a full pen of rams to the NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales. Charlie Boden says the main sale, to be held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, on 25 September attracts a wide range of commercial sheep farmers looking for quality tups.
Mr Boden and his brothers, who run the Sportsmans flock at Stockport, Cheshire , secured the 60 ewe flock’s best price in more than 40 years of breeding Texels. The ram, Sportsmans A Star is a son of the 70,000 guinea Teiglum Young Gun, who led the sale at Lanark last year, the dam is a Cowal-bred ewe by Cairnam Talisman, purchased for 9,000gns in 2014.
The Boden family were delighted with the 130,000 guinea sale, their previous best price having been 26,000 guineas. The family, who trade as Boden and Davies, aren’t expecting such starry prices at Builth, but they do anticipate a good trade and a worthwhile trip.
