What a Match for Superior Stock
6th September 2022
It is internationally renowned as a match maker for superior stock, but Boughrood farmer Will Jones-Davies took the reputation of the NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales to the next level !
There with his parents to buy a few Texel rams back in 2011, he was particularly taken with one in particular. And, as became clear, it was a little more than the ram and the sales pitch of the person selling it that caught his attention.
The yearling from Millend Texels proved a cheap price to pay for meeting the love of his life. And it wasn’t just the stylish blue and white Joules shirt the cool and stylish Charlotte Watkins was wearing that captivated him.
Eleven years on, he explained to their wedding guests: “It wasn’t until I looked below the waist that I found what I was really looking for.
“She was stood in wellies and waterproof leggings. And I thought, ‘Wow that is the girl for me’. That image stole my heart and I do believe it was love at first sight.”
Will’s was just one of the four top table speeches that featured the NSA Wales and Border Ram Sales – surely another record for the event! He and Charlotte finally tied the knot in June this year.
Charlotte Jones Davies now a vet with Belmont Farm and Equine Vets in Hereford, says she was too busy focusing on the actual sale day to notice Will’s wider interest all those years ago.
She’ll be back helping her parents with their Texel yearling rams at the sale again this year. Will is likely to be there to choose another tup.
But there’s never likely to be such a memorable sale for them. Although, Charlotte does have two equally lovely sisters, Rebecca and Megan!
Their grandfather, John Watkins, is a long serving committee member at the sales, long cherished for its family feel as well as the excellence of the stock. No doubt he’ll be keeping a keen eye out ……
