Suffolk Success
29th September 2022
The highest priced ram in the Suffolk breed was bred by father and daughter team, Jim and Nicki Hartwright, from Bromyard. They achieved the top price of 3,500 guineas for a yearling Suffolk tup from their Springfields flock and, with another yearling going under the hammer for 2,100 guineas, they also had the second highest breed price.
The consignment of forty plus tups all sold well. They were also pleased with their averages, with the pen of twelve Suffolks averaging £1485 and their pen of Whitehart Texels averaging £1148.
The pair have been selling at the NSA Wales & Border Ram Sale for very many years and felt that this had been a particularly good sale. A bonus was that the improved Tup Taxi service meant the rams cleared quickly and efficiently after purchase.
