Rams return to Royal Welsh Showground

Nearly 4,000 rams will be offered for sale at the NSA Wales & Border main ram sale at the Royal Welsh Showground this month. The pandemic means there hasn’t been a sale since 2019 and among those eagerly preparing to sell are father and daughter team, Nicki and Jim Hartwright. They farm at Stanford Bishop, Worcester, where they run 350 pedigree Texel and Suffolk ewes. They sell 200 tups annually and will be bringing 60 Texels and ten Suffolks to Builth on 20th September. Nicki says: “We always support the sale and we’re glad to see it back after missing last year. It’s always a big day for us, but it’s a great place to take rams. “With the current enthusiasm in the sheep industry we're quite confident that buyers will be back in force. It's a great place to do a lot of business in one day, with a great selection of inspected rams available.”
The family has supported the sales organised by the NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales for many years, the father and daughter team are regular faces at the sale and pride themselves on producing good strong rams for their customers. They are often on the lookout for a new stock ram whilst at the sale, having previously purchased Canfellaes Vantastic, top priced ram at the sale with the Quick family.
Organisers say 3,800 top quality sheep from across a range of breeds are to be offered for sale at the Royal Welsh Showground this year. The figure is just 10% down on the number entered for the last sale in 2019. Most of the usual sheep breeds will be represented at the sale. There is an increased number of Bluefaced Leicester and a chance to bid on the Dutch Spotted, which will be holding its society sale at the Royal Welsh Showground for the first time.
The usual Tup Taxi service will be available, but buyers are asked to be aware of new parking arrangements this year. Parking will be on the Horse Hill, with parking and direction signs along the route.
