Main Ram Sale date change for 2017
15th December 2016
The NSA Wales and Border Main Sale, traditionally regarded as the largest in Europe, will be held on 25 September 2017. The date is a week later than had been planned, thanks to reorganisation of other events at the Royal Welsh Showground.
Executive Director Jane Smith welcomed the change, saying the later date was good for buyers, vendors and also for the planning of the event. It meant there would now be seven weeks between the Early Sale on 7 August and the Main Sale on Monday 25 September.
The sale is an important economic driver in Mid Wales and in 2016 the Main Sale grossed more than £2.2 million. The record price of 18,000 guineas topped a number of headline prices across the breeds.
Vendors travelled from as far as the Orkneys and the Isle of Man. International visitors in 2016 included Dutch buyer Harry deVliegher who with his father, Cor, regularly makes the 48 hour trip to buy Charollais, most recently paying 1700 guineas for Arwyn Thomas’s Royal Welsh winner.
